Everything makes me feel to have arrived in fairyland
The tall, narrow houses in pastel colours, the flowers and plants on the walls, the stone alleys and clothes hanging out to dry, the colourful boats, the fishermen. This is Vernazza and everything makes me feel to have arrived in fairyland.
What I find the most beautiful and picturesque village in Liguria is easily accessible by train and by boats that daily shuttle between the countries. For me, it was love at first sight. Under the church, there is a small beach, called by the villagers “marine” and then a series of cliffs easy to reach where the more courageous can perform in spectacular dives!
The country gives the impression of an extension of the mountain as if nature had created all by itself.
Vernazza has ancient origins, its small port in fact was already landing point for the Roman ships that reached here from far to stock the Sciaccherà, the delicious sweet wine.
The landing of this port called Ventegà is where every day, at dawn and dusk, you can meet the fishermen were preparing their nets or even to discuss, in dialect, of those who caught the biggest fish! If there is one thing that never fails in my travels it is to look at the city from above. From high the cities have a story to tell and Vernazza is certainly no exception. Via a steep staircase, you get to the Tower, where you see all the beauty of the village overlooking the sea and in the opposite direction, from Salita dei Frati, you arrive at a vantage point that really leaves you speechless.
